Brown announces 4th Annual Public Safety Scholarship Essay Contest

– MP Patrick Brown is pleased to announce his 4th Annual Public Safety Scholarship Essay Contest. The scholarship is aimed at increasing awareness about public safety and making Barrie a safer place for all. The first place prize recipient will be awarded $500.00 for their future education.

“I encourage all high school students to share their thoughts and ideas on how to improve safety measures in our communities. Your views are important and may help to shape the future of the City of Barrie.” said MP Brown.

This contest is open to all Barrie residents currently attending a high school in the City of Barrie. In order to be eligible the submission should include a cover page with the theme of the essay and contact information including name, address, and telephone number.  Applicants should submit a 500 word essay on a workable solution to improve safety for community members in Barrie and decrease vandalism and crime.

Cover page and essays should be emailed to brownpa1a@parl.gc.ca as an attachment. All submissions will be reviewed by a panel of three judges. The panel consists of Justin Heran, Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board Trustee, Diane Firman, Simcoe County District School Board Trustee and Jerry Moore, Councillor for the City of Barrie and member of the Barrie Police Services Board.

MP Brown added “Congratulations once again to RuiLin Guo, a grade 9 student at Innisdale Secondary School for her contribution.” RuiLin was the winner of the 2009 Public Safety Scholarship Essay contest.

Dear Friends,

It is my pleasure to announce my 4th Annual Public Safety Scholarship Essay Contest. This contest provides you with the opportunity to win a $500.00 scholarship to be used towards your future education. This contest is open to all Barrie residents currently attending a local school in Barrie and is aimed at increasing awareness about public safety and making Barrie a safer place for all.

Please find a checklist below to assist you as you prepare your submission.
  • The participants should submit a 500 word essay on a workable solution for making Barrie a community that is safer from acts of vandalism and crime.
  • Include a cover page with the theme of the essay and the contact information including name, address and telephone number.
  • The completed essay should be submitted to brownpa1a@parl.gc.ca as an attachment.
  • Note: the deadline for submission is ­­­­­­­­November  1, 2010
Judges for this contest are Diane Firman, Simcoe County School Board Trustee, Justin Heran Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board, Jerry Moore, Councillor for the City of Barrie and member of the Barrie Police Services Board.
