MP Brown on hand as Minister MacKay breaks ground and announces contract awards at Canadian Forces Base Borden

CFB BORDEN, ON – The Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence today announced the Government of Canada’s commitment, representing over $4 million for projects that will improve the quality of the infrastructure for members of the Canadian Forces. “These investments demonstrate our Government’s commitment towards our men and women in uniform by providing them the infrastructure they need to work and train in their service to Canada,” said Minister MacKay. “Today’s announcement will also provide significant benefits to the local economy of this community as well as the region, as a whole.” Minister MacKay announced a $1.5 million contract to Stoburn Construction Ltd. of Orillia, Ontario, for the construction of a gymnasium, and a $158,900 contract to A-Con Construction Ltd. of Woodbridge, Ontario, for the recapitalization of residential housing units at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Borden. Another investment includes the beginning of work for upgrades to the ventilation and air conditioning system in the Food Services School. The construction work from this investment amounts up-to $2.8 million. Of these monies, an initial $1.3 million contract has already been awarded to Monteith Building Group Ltd of Woodbridge, Ontario, for this project. In line with the Canada First Defence Strategy, there is a need to update and replace dated defence infrastructure in order to meet the challenges of the 21st century. The Government of Canada conducted an open, fair, and transparent competitive process to award each of these contracts. |
